Okay, as promised here is the thread Firstly, I didn't start this to put anyone down or to critize. Only so that we could have a place to share what we have run into at other sites so that we can learn from others mistakes, and perhaps have a chuckle or two To start, One thing that I constantly ran into at my first LOTR RPG is that a)Everyone knew each other already somehow b)Most Characters were related to a canon character somehow. The second annoyed me really more than the first, Its like "I am Elronds Great Grandaughter...In law...so I look just like Arwen Okay? " In fact, almost word for word it came from this one girls profile and I do not mean to be stuck up or rude, becuase shes a nice girl and a decent RPG'er but there is no way that so many character can have so many kids and relations. I would much rather read about a character that came out of abseloutely no where and learn more about them throughout there posts as layers and such. If you were born in Rivendell a place of such beauty and peace...how did you come such an excellent fighter? Also, characters knowing each other already. What are the chances that if you are riding through the woods, in, lets say Gondor...That you just happen to run into someone that is also an elf and you have known all your lfe? I ask alot of questions becuase none of this was ever addressed realistically, It just....was. Considering with we are playing in a world of wizards and dragons, Its still nice to keep some reality and realism. Okay, I think thats enough out of me for now *g*

I can't stand it if people don't use Caps at the begining of sentences... especially the first one in the post. Spelling dosn't bother me so much, but for some reason the Capital letter thing does, lol. Oh, if they don't capitalize 'i' that bothers me too. Weird peeve. Oh, and bird mail also bothers me, even when I use it, though, it is usefull.

I would like to add to something I said earlier, and shall attempt to do so without appearing to be a total hypocrite *cough*
About all female characters knowing how to fight, Now I have nothing against strong female characters, thats great but give them a reason to be so, not just that they were born that way.
Eowyn makes for such an intresting heroine becuase her reason was all women of her country have some skill with a sword, not enough to fight in any battle but enough to defend themselves and there family if need be.
Now it seems like every female character is the same way, I have purposely created some characters that are female, but have no idea how to defend themselves so when confronted with a bad situation, you are forced to be creative instead "I take my sword and kill the Orc and he is dead" kind of situations.
There isn't always a need to be this great warrior, how about a great healer, or scholar?

I agree with you there, Val... But Im more deeper into than you. I cant stand silly spelling mistakes and bad punctuation... It drives me up the wall.

I am a total anti-Mary-Sue. Mary Sue is a perfect character in fanfic and RPG (for those who don't know) . I agree with you Anwyn, that bugs me as well. Éowyn is ok, because, well, you just said it. =P
I can't stand it when people spell things wrong - how long does it take to hit the spell-check button? And IM-talk will be the death of me - I want to claw my eyes out whenever I see it! It's like a totally different language -- I almost have to sound it out to understand it.

What I hate that I am a total hypocrite about is mixing up hominymes... if thats how you spell it XD... but anyhoo I hate it because I do it subconciously all the time. In fact I noticed it in a post I JUST made. For example: The creature moved there head to the left and evaded the deadly jab delivered by the elven warrior. EX The Elven Maiden looked towards the great white pavillion. Their she could see many a beautiful flower, each hand picked from the gardens in the deeps of Rivendell's Valley.

Well, I guess my thing is mainly grammar. Any sort of screwed up grammar at all is like fingernails on a blackboard to me. Spelling, punctuation, proper use of contractions (its vs. it's), short sentences, etc. It just crawls all over me. I don't know why, I guess I've just always been a stickler for correct English in my writing. I don't mind IM speak, TYVM, though to see any and all modern slang or overly modern words in context RP is insanely annoying (gonna, etc.). Anyway, that's my two cents.
Oh, and by the way, Orre, you left out an apostrophe in your post. ;D

Most of my peeves have already been posted, but I have alot of RP pet peeves lmao.
1) When people bring it OUT OF CANON relationships into play in the RP. I mean, if I wasn't too friendly with someone in OOC, I wouldn't suddenly hate their character. I mean, sure, some people might say "But when Becky was around your characters were allies at first then you started hating her and you attacked her, what gives?" But truth is, Morsereg is a conniving (spelling?), evil, backstabber who will go with whatever path will benefit him the best to all means.
2) When battle posts are simply "My army charged down" or "My army fought harder through the opposing ranks." I mean, damn!, as you all know I'm not one fond of short posts, and most of my posts are atleast 2-3 sentences long and that's as a LAST RESORT. In battle I simply despise short posts, you gotta tell tactics dude or else people are gonna think you're just sending everyone forward and they're gonna flank you from all sides.

All right, I'll amend my post to agree with Tony. Battles are above all things where you absolutely need to be more specific than any other time, so shortass battle posts are just like Satan to me. Can't stand 'em. The less you post, the easier it is for someone to come up with a maneuver to pwn you, so you're obliged to take your time. Plus, battle are extremely dramatic, so ham it up with battle posts! That's my thinking, at least. You guys remember the old Battle of the Morannon and the monstrous post I did after I came back from London? Yeah, THAT's what I'm talking about.
Orre, no worries, because shortass really isn't a word anyway. ;D

I loved it, too - and it looks like ere long we may have another one, what with all the plottage that's going on. I promise a battle post of at least three paragraphs. Heh, what we oughta do is have a post contest and see who can post the longest post that's not just fluff during the next battle.

LOL me and you will win, Aaron. Then you'll beat me by a sentence. LOL.
OH another pet peeve! When people block ALL your attacks and stop ALL of your spells.
Cause, you see, I'm a member to this Kingdom Hearts message board, and for those who've played it know Maleficent is one badass Fairy and is UBER powerful (I mean, she wasn't all that powerful in the game when you fought her but you got the impression that she had alot of power.) Now, you see, I've done two spells, and there's this nobody I'm fighting who's not only melted the ice when I froze the room, but I trapped us all in the void, and we were in eternal darkness with the howling wind ripping through our hair, and she dispelled THAT too.

Oh pet peeves * rolls up sleeves * But, as a better start, no-one on this board 'peeves ' me. However, I just deleted all my characters from a site which appeared to penalize any-one who: a) Knew anything about Tolkien at all b) Wrote posts of more than 3 lines An admin should encourage people, rather like a good teacher would, but on the aforesaid site Admin was only interested in how many zero personality dimwit girls he could lay, creating a lot of characters, as did the girls solely for post after post of extremely graphic ( and ugh! using modernisms! ) and very badly written sex. He should be crucified with extreme prejudice solely for being a know-nothing perv. ( And know nothing in every area ) A girl was raped without being asked, and for some reason she thought she had to go along with it. Tsk. But I suppose what does truly make me hit the roof is that some-one might join a site like that, spend time creating places, posting, describing, setting up story lines, but Admin simply feels shown up for scrappy one line posts ands either ignores, or starts eternal digs at one. Several people were finally teed off and simply left, leaving him with all the dimwits who's Tolkien knowledge goes as far as the films, and ogling Legolas. Punctuation.... a girl on the aforementioned always wrote like this: What am I doing she said to him what do you think Im doing out here as she looks at him and smiles Good Grief. Most couldn't spell, in fact. Now my spelling, due to the fact that I can't touch type is atrocious, because of errors hitting the keys, but I will go back and check, and correct, sometimes I am just rushing, and getting it down before it leaves my mind. Characters who do not spend at least some time making their characters more than one dimensional cardboard cut-outs, because, well, let's face it, isn't it so boring, when all you want is to get in the sack with some-one? No storyline, no personality, nothing but a matchstick figure who is out to rpg sex . From that site to this: That is like a remedial school, this is like an Oxford University.

Well, hell, man! That's really nice of you to say, and I do know what you mean, because before CoG I've been on other boards (*cough, cough, anyone who recalls the transvestite's Council of Elrond, cough cough*) and some of the actions there were deplorable. I've never had an experience as bad as that, but I have dealt with some EXTREME lack of knowledge of Tolkien, and to me that is about as dumb as, like, I don't know ... like trying to use a jewel-cutter without reading the instructions. (Terrible example, I know - shut up, I had a blonde moment.) Defeats the purpose. Go read the books, dumbass, and then I might want to read the sentence-and-a-half you post when you can find time from posing at the mall.
Wow, where did that come from?
