Chi'Gandir and Nurutyave made their way into Edoras as the afternoon waned, their legs glad of a chance to rest in a bed after many long days of travel. Such was the hardiness of the old stock from the First Age that only a fortnight and three days had passed since they departed Bree, but there was still many more miles ahead of them before they could begin their hunt proper. They felt their work well done these days past, having rested but little throughout all the wilderness through which they had journeyed. So it was, that when atop the rolling hills they saw in the distance the golden roofs of Edoras glinting in the sun (or at least when Nurutyave saw them and told Chi'Gandir), that without much ado they decided to take their ease for at least one night.
Things were peaceful in Rohan of late, and the guards were not overly concerned with keeping out undesirables, furthering trade as they often did. So the comrades passed through the gates of Edoras, and without much searching discovered which of the inns in the city was the finest, and it was there where they directed their boots. They opened the doors to the inn, and strode inside. The common room was raucous and rowdy, and even though it quieted somewhat when the two odd personages entered, it soon returned to its brawling grandeur.
Nurutyave and Chi took seats along one of the walls, not in a corner but neither in the centre of the hubbub. Truth be told, Chi would have preferred a table even more sequestered, but Nurutyave had heard tales of the women of Rohan, and was tiring of serving wenches at any rate, and when he saw a table with a delicious-appearing woman with her beau, he pushed Chi into a seat at a nearby table. Chi snorted something about getting seen, but Nurutyave hushed him up. If Chi's eyes had been normal, they would have been on fire. He was not one for repressing urges, but he did not like to be so obvious about his indulgences. Chi pounded upon the table, yelling for a drink. A boy came over, young, soft, with creamy white skin, and Nurutyave glanced at Chi for an instant before ordering a mug of the strongest liquor the inn offered. The boy hesitated. A mug? Surely he meant ale. No, the fellow meant liquor. The boy shook his head and looked at Chi for his order, as Nurutyave went back to appraising his night's meat. The boy bit back a cry of exclamation when he saw The Bat's hands and eyes.
