"This could be something serious. It would do not harm to press further into Moria so that we may find whatever we may. If goblins are all that dwell in the long dark of Khazad Dum then we shall dispose of them. If something more is down there the free people need to know. If we find the true host of Moria my lord may grant you his trust and we will no longer need to accompany you. We will know why there was no war when you came, because there was no host."

Garland frowned. "My friend, there were many skirmishes when I came to Moria. I lost many friends to the gobblin hoardes. We pushed them back into the deep dark chasams. There are always units searching and disposing of more gobblins. I am sorry, the great host your lord seeks simply does not exist. As for the gobblins... they are my problem and I am dealing with them. I am sorry, but this is somthing I feel I have to take care of myself...... it would be quite embarrassing if the rulers of Middle Earth thought I could not keep a handle on my own realm."

"I should wonder myself why you are so reluctant to investigate this. I must report to my lord, and he will have great interest in this. Until we go through the caverns ourselves this matter must not be lightly tossed aside."

"As I have said repeatedly, friend, my men are constantly combing the tunnels. If somthing is there, it will not remain hidden for long. Now, I have business that takes me to Gondor and Lorien, you are welcome to ride along, then to Arnor we shall journey and speak with your king. I am sorry to say that if an Arnorian garrison being kept in my realm is a condition of his friendship, I will be the one questioning his motives." Garland finished his drink and looked to a guard, "Make our horses ready, we leave immeadiately."

The two nodded and walked down the tunnels to prepare their steeds. They wondered what reaction Arnor would have to these happenings.

Garland mounted his steed and along with the two Arnorian rangers he rode swiftly towards Lothlorien.

An orc walked into the throne room and handed Lord Garland a note-
Until you can regain my trust, then our alliance is broken. Do not write back
-Megloren Istdale.

Garland wadded the letter and tossed it into the fireplace, not bothering to read it aloud. He nodded to a guard and the orc was cut down before he could leave the room.

A knight of Arnor was sent into the mines of Moria and to Lord Garland's throne room.
"Lord Doren shall soon hold a council and requests your presence at Annuminas when it begins."

A guard greeted the Arnorian knight. "Thank you sir. I shall relay this message to my liege the moment he returns to Khazad-Dum."

When Garland arrived back to his home, he took a seat on his comfortable throne, nearly nodding off to sleep. Yet before he could a guard approached and informed him that his presence had been requested in Arnor for a council. He nodded to the guard and then made himself ready to depart.

Garland stolled into his chambers, weary for he had much riding in the past days and little in the lines of sleep. Still there was one more task before him before he would find rest. Garland slipped from his chambers and disappeared into the dark depths of Moria, not returning for several hours. When he finally returned he went to his bed, falling asleep without so much as removing his boots.

An elven woman, clad in blue and silver with a white cloak arrived and spoke to a servant of the Lord: "My name is Vaire and I like to offer Lord Garland my service. May I speak with him, please?"

The servant nodded and led Vaire into Lord Garland's throne chamber. 'Go speak your piece with his lordship' the servant replied, motioning towards the throne.
Garland sat on his throne speaking with a soldier, apparently being given some briefing. As Vaire approached the soldier bowed and left and Garland looked up at her as she came before him. "And how might I help you, my lady?"
