At the peak of the Redhorn, Garland had a great watch tower constructed. On a clear day one could see for leagues and leagues, though lower towers on the surrounding peaks could relay messages to the top when the weather atop the Redhorn was foul. From the peak of the watch tower there was a long speaking tube that decended deep into the mountain, directly to the throne chamber of Lord Garland. News from the top could reach Garland immeadiatly. As well as detecting an oncomming attack, a chain of signal fires could be set off, alerting Moria's allies: Angmar in the North and Enedwaith to the Southwest.
