It had been many a long year since Aragorn had spent any significant time in the tunnels 'neath the the Redhorn, but as is the way with much of the world, once one had travailed those long and arduous roads, the way of them never completely left his thoughts and memories. He took Saeros and walked deep into Moria with him, the Elf and the Ranger combining their skills in stealth and their roguish ways, and avoiding detection from the folk of Moria as best they might.
Aragorn knew not to what extent the Halls of Khazad-dum had been changed since last was he here, and he reasoned that like as not the most logical place to begin would be the old throne room. Saeros was correct in his assumption that there was more than one entrance to nearly every room in the caverns, and it chanced that Aragorn knew a few of them, all thanks be to the long hours he had spent in search of an exit years prior. He led them down several tunnels, all of which were block or turned aside, but at the last they came to one that had not, and carefully they inched toward the great cavern.

Dark were the secrets of Khazad Dum and never was Saeros gone so deep into the mountains. He followed his companion, always aware of the danger and he kept his keen eyes open. Not much could hide before them even in the darkness. And finally Aragorn led them to the deepest deeps, the foundations of the mountains, to the shores of the great water and there they found a way into the right direction and upwards again to the great cavern. And when they came higher and the silence of the eternal night fell behind them, they spied movements and lights in front of. The sounds of many rough boots and hard feets waved through the halls. Saeros touched Aragorns arm and gestured to be careful. "Yrch!"

In the long hours it took Saeros and Aragorn to traverse the winding tunnels of Khazad-Dum Lord Garland had set into motion plans of his own. Two ravens set out from Moria, each of them bearing a message to Garland's captains in Mithlond and Enedwaith. The time would come soon enough for Lord Garland to do a little 'exploring' of his own.

"'Tis e'en as I suspected!" hissed Aragorn. "Our good and righteous comrade Garland seemeth to keep ill company. Let us inch closer to them and lend them our ears - mayhap we shall hear of plans afoot." To Saeros this counsel seemed passing meet, and so the twain comrades managed to hoist themselves onto a thin ledge of rock some ten feet above the floor against the wall, and hid themselves behind a pillar to hear the speech of the Orcs below them.

Saeros listened carefully and his keen ears catched some swearings and assaultings as they are used among the orcs. Suddenly the creatures fell silent and shuffled nervous with their feet, but Saeros couldn't make out what the reason was of their anxious.
