Vaire lived in a cosy house in Buckland, close to the old forrest. Even she was obviously no Hobbit, her neigbours accepted her and payed respect, because she was wise and friendly and skilled in gardening (what her neighbours highly appreciated). She also used to fish on the river in one of the little fisher boats or to wander through the Overbourne Marshes and along the borders of the old forrest. That made the bucklanders in Brandyhall talk about her as for she were a ferrie or a witch. But all agreed, she was a good hearted person and lived quietly without bothering anybody who didn't wanted to be bothered.
