Come on, how can there be anyone here who DOESN'T like something in the series? I'm personally fond of Final Fantasy 7, for reasons *points to sig and avvi.*
Advent Children is being released on April 25th in the United States, after long wait (God, wasn't it supposed to be released here, in, what...October?) and it's in about time. I've been waiting for years since it's ANNOUNCEMENT, which was atleast 2 or 3 years ago.
Hope it comes with the "Last Order" OVA, that would kick ass. Yeah, this post is mainly going to be about the "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII" series, so that you all aren't lost if I go into talking about them. Not that everyone would be lost, but some might!
Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII is an Action-RPG that was released on September 24th, 2004 in Japan, on NTT DoCoMo FOMA 900i mobile phones. An American release was recently announced, and it is assumed to use the Verizon V-CAST network. It takes place six years before the events of FF7, and stars the Turks, recurring antiheroes featured in the game.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is another Action-RPG. There is little information on it because it hasn't been released yet in Japan or elsewhere. It will revolve around Zack and takes place around the time Sephiroth learned about his past. It's set to be released sometime this year on the PSP.
Last Order: Final Fantasy VII is an OVA (Original Video Animation) that was packaged with the "Ultimate Edition" of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Last Order details some of the events that occur five years before the main events of the original Final Fantasy VII game, most notably the burning on Nibelheim.
The Maiden Who Travels the Planet is a novelization that appears in the Ultimania Omega Guide for Final Fantasy VII. It is Aerith's story during FF7 while she is the in the Lifestream after her death.
On the Way to a Smile is a novelization that occurs directly after FF7's conclusion. Told in retrospective fashion 2 years after the end of the game. The first part revolves around a young boy named Denzel, who lived on top of the plates of Midgar. The second follows Tifa Lockhart.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a CGI-film developed as the sequal to FF7. With Advent Children, we rejoin Cloud Strife two years after the game as he struggles to live on after Aerith's death, while a strange disease inflicts the world. There is very little more known to me because I don't want to spoil anything, I just watch the trailer over and over again until April 25th.
Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII is a third-person shooter RPG developed for the PS2, starring Vincent Valentine (YAY!) as the main character, taking place a year after Advent Chidren concludes, and three years after the end of FF7. It has been stated that it's not necessarily the end of the FF7 storyline, just settling Vincent's personal story, as Advent Children finishes Cloud's.
There you go. Now no getting lost when I talk about this stuff, okay?
