"Oh, but I know." She smiled. "I am Siranna, queen of Mirkwood and I accept your offer for an alliance as you are a nice man in yourself."

Garland's look was that of dumbfoundedness. He hesitated for a moment, thinking it must be some joke, but as he read the ladies face he knew she was speaking the truth. He fumbled up from his seat in embarassment. Kneeling he replied, "My Lady. It is an honor. I thank thee for thy acceptance."

"That my lord is why I do not declare myself so openly. I prefer to be treated as a human being rather than one of royalty. Please sit. Would you like an ale?"

Garland stood and slid back into his seat grinning. "Ah, an elven maiden that wishes to be treated as a mere human... there is somthing one does not come across every day." Looking out the window he smiled and noted, "A bit early for an Ale, My Lady, don't you think? I shouldn't mind a bit of breakfast and perhaps some wine though."

Garland sat at the table and waited while Siranna left, presumably to order the breakfast. He lounged back in his seat, feeling quite comfortable, as the hospitality in Mirkwood seemed much more inviting than that of Arnor, Gondor or Lothlorien.

About fifteen minuets later she returned with a tray that had two wines and a breakfast platter. Then she handed them to him. "There you go."

He smiled and sat the tray on the table. "Thank you, My Lady. You shouldn't have, I am not acoustomed to being served by royalty. Please, have a seat." He looked over the platter and picked a sweet looking pastry. He took a bite and then a sip of wine before looknig back to Siranna. "I am sorry to ask, but, do you happen to have any recent news from the west? I have not had any since I began my journey several days ago."

She nodded. "I'm sorry, I do not. Normally I keep Mirkwood isolated unless great need. I attend councils and such but I choose carefully upon my wars. My people come first. If I think our country itself is threatened, then I will send my men to their death, for that's how I see war, and I try to stray from it."

Garland looked at her and replied. "That is a wise enough stance I think. Why should anyone want to fight a war if not necessary. I have seen enough of war to know I do not desire another." After finishing the pastry he was eating, Garland looked out the window. "I hate to leave Mirkwood so soon, but I fear I must return to Khazad-Dum. I think it still early enough to make it home by nightfall, or shortly after by any means."

She nodded. "Would you like a pack to take with you?"

"No thankyou." He looked at the plate infront of him. "I will take a bit of this with me, that is all, thankyou. If you are ever near Khazad-Dum, please stop in and say hello. He then stood up, preparing to leave.

"I shall remember that." She said and nodded to him packing the food for him.

Garland bowed one last time. "It was a pleasure meeting you, and thank you again for accepting alliance and for this meal. Good day." He then took the packed food, paid the innkeeper for his horse's board and left.
