Doren smiled in the shadows. Even under the guise of the Lady E'vesash she had professed to him that her life was of no interest. Something that intrigued him more than anything. To acheive another's identity would normally give one a false sence of happiness and comfort with the lie that they were living. It was not so with this lady. No matter who's identity she took it seemed that she could never really find happiness, false or true. Perhaps her motives were beyond that of Doren's comprehension. Knowing that she had only truly had a friend in her steed strangely comforted him. He felt that it shouldn't have but for her to have a companion in life was enough to allow him to feel that there was some grounds for discusion. Perhaps she felt something more for her riding companion and in that perhaps they shared a common interest. "Do you care for your steed. It seems to be your only companion in life, certainly you feel something for it."

Alatariel glanced up from her meat and raised a brow, somewhat confused by Doren's statements. "My steed? He is my friend...he has been with me as long as I can remember." The maiden shrugged and shifted the log upon which she sat in attempt to make it more comfortable. "You trouble yourself with many things that do not matter my, Lord Doren." She stated simply, believing her words to the uttermost.

The maiden shrugged and shifted the log upon which she sat in attempt to make it more comfortable. "You trouble yourself with many things that do not matter much, Lord Doren." She stated simply, believing her words to the uttermost.

"Well I can't seem to understand you. You won't talk to anyone and though I am willing to speak you, you are not wiling to speak with me. Why do you hide your thoughts from people?" Doren had given up. If this woman did not wish to speak with him then he would allow her to be on her way without waylaying her progress. He didn't understand the elven maiden and if she would not speak with him then he would never understand her. Perhaps some things should remain a mystery.

Alatariel placed her meat on the ground and swivelled to face him, her brow furrowed in confusion as she did so. Finally, she let out a sigh. "What are you talking about?" She asked plainly...and rather boldly. She wasn't used to people questioning all that she said.

Doren took a bite of his food and after a large swallow he stood and shook his head. "It seems you don't listen very often either. Perhaps I'll never understand you and perhaps we shall never truly know each other, Alatariel. I won't question you any further and if you wish it, you may return to your home. I cannot expect you to answer my questions." Doren sighed once more time and leaned againts a large peice of debree that had fallen from Dul Guldur and closed his weary eyes. That night he intended to get some much needed sleep.

Alatariel watched him from the corner of her eye as she shifted the meat back toward the fire with the toe of her boot now that she was finished with it. 'Good.' She thought to herself as he spoke. "As it should be," she said aloud. Though, she did not yet rise. It felt good to be before a fire on such a chilly night...and where else would she go where she would not have to build another? She simply sat and remained silent...glancing toward Doran from time to time.

Doren sat against the stone silently and heard no rustling in the leaves to signify her departure. He opened one eye to see if she remained and noticed that she was glancing towards him. As she quickly returned her gaze to the fire, Doren cosed his eye and smiled. "I thought you were leaving."

Alatariel frowned and looked toward him once more, slightly flustered by his accusing tone. "I-I was." She cleared her throat and shifted herself to find a more comfortable position. "But t'would be a pointless action, for then I would have to build my own fire and warm myself all over again. It would be a waste of energy when I have a fire here before me now." It was a logical answer, she thought. Of course it would be pointless to wander off and have to redo everything again. Right?

"Perhaps. But if you so detest my company you would surely wish to make your camp elsewhere away from here. I beleive that while you do not wish to become cold, you also don't detest my company as much as you might lead yourself to beleive. Perhaps I myself am misguided to who you really are. While you reveal little to me with your words, you reveal much with your actions. Rest here if it is your wish. I shall trouble you no longer." Doren sighed and returned to silence, listening to the sounds of the night. The forest around them was alive with more things than birds. They were in dangerous terretory. Perhaps Alatariel knew that.

Alatariel rested her elbows upon her knees and watched the fire with her dark eyes, resting her chin upon her hands. Her upswept elvish-ears listened to the words that Doren spoke. "I never said that your company was detested. Only that your questions were needless. But if my absence is what you wish, then I can certainly make it so."

"I did not say that. If what you say is true then my assumptions are incorrect. I have a rather bad habbit of assuming things though sometimes my assumptions are not so wrong. You may stay here as long as you like."
Doren looked around him and remembered the history of Dul Guldur. Perhaps conflicts of ages past would provide some sort of conversation. "Do you know the stories of Dul Guldur?"

Alatariel nodded her head at his first statements, and shook it at his last. "Nay, I do not." She clasped her hands out in front of her, nearing them as close to the fire as possible after once more removing her gloves. She glanced up at the sky, and then allowing her eyes to wander aimlessly over the trees and wood about them.

Doren nodded and so began the tale of Dul Guldur and all of it's evil. "After Sauron's defeat during the War of the Ring all peoples of Middle Earth were finally at peace. The One Ring was lost and eventually departed the memory of those who witnessed it's darkness. It became a tale, and a tale became a myth, and a myth became legend until one day that wich was long feared passed into nothingness, but some things should not be forgotten.
News came to the many Kings of Elves and Men and Dwarves that there were stirrings in the North. None took heed to these dark tidings aside from The Wise. In The White Council of the Eldar and Istari a debate was being held to decide what was to be done. The rumors were that The Necromancer had taken up an abode in the Mountains of Southern Mirkwood in a Dark Tower of Sorcery. Many thought him to be a Sorcerer. Others such as The Wise thought he was a Nazgul, a servant of Sauron, but when finally they could not allow the darkness to grow any longer they rode into the southern hills of Mirkwood to the fortress known as Dul Guldur only to learn that he was no wraith but The Dark Lord Sauron himself. He was still weakened by his devestating defeat and was cast down by Istari and Eldar, thus his fortress fell into ruin yet he was not vanquished." Doren smiled finding some satisfactory in his tale. Of course not all of the details of the tale were told but Doren told all that he had heard to his comrade.
"I am no story teller but I hope that that will give you some insight to what this place really is. It is a sanctuary of darkness. There is nothing more to it. Far to the North across The Forest River is the abode of the elves though from the river south only darkness reighns. Dark behemoths of destruction and descendants of Ungoliant. This is a very dangerous place for such a maiden as yourself."

Alatariel listened intently to his tale...such as it was. She gaze off into the darkness that had fallen the forest as she pictured parts of the story in her mind. It was quite interesting, she had to admit. Perhaps she had heard bits and pieces before, but she had never quite put it all together and really thought about it. Though, at his last statement she glanced toward him curiously. "And what makes you say that?"
