This arguement is over. You have NO idea what you are talking about. You caught me though! I am the big deciever here. I have been trying to change CoG ever since the beginning! I admit to it. It has been my lifelong plan- Change Aaron's already-finely made site into something completely different. Like I said, this is over. Let's get back to the issue at hand, shall we?

It would be fun to have a Beleriand RP I suppose, but at the same time, it would also have the ability to deteriorate quickly into a power-race.
At first everyone would want to be a Maia character because they were running all over the place at that time and could use cool powers, and for a time peace would rule the role-play (peace between actual people, not characters that is as wars will always exist). Then, one person would make a Maia Power that is only slightly inside or outside the Realm-of-Balanced-Powers, and then another person would make a power of the same magnitude or slightly higher, and have to be granted their power because another person had been. Now, as a few of the old-time members of this site will remember, I campainged about half-a-year ago to have Maia Characters removed from this site entirely, but my campaing was little more than "A million voices cried out and then were suddenly silenced." (The full account of my campaign is somewhere in the COG archives. It's about two posts long, but is never-the-less a campaign.)
All I guess I'm saying (in short but lengthened unnecessarily as I am oft to do) is that in a short time, any person playing an elf, dwarf, man, or orc would suddenly find that not only were they alone in that respect, but that by sacrificing their character in an all-out-attack on a Maia enemy, they might be able to place a small scrape mark upon said Maia's armor.
That would suck.
-Thou hast been warned by Ashuron, Semi-Prophet of RP's Doom and Downfall (And-One-Who-Prays-That-His-Prophecies-Shalt-Not-Come-to-Pass-but-is-Greatly-Afeared-He-is-Right) Heh. --Please don't spam my PM box with hate e-mail again. I know I hold an unpopular opinion about the Maia question, but that's no reason to take your innumerable personal problems out on me.
I'll shut up now.

lol compared to now? We have a ton of Maiar or power-users all over the place. That's sort of my point. The other half of my point is that it would be even worse in the First Age. There were a whole lot of Maia all over Middle-Earth in the FA, but the only known ones in the TA were the Istari, Sauron, and the Balrog(s) (unless I'm forgeting one, which could be possible). The lot of Maia in the FA is like giving license for everyone to make a Maia character and go to town. Or village. Or hamlet. Or thorp. lol.

People who want to be Maiar would be... Like now. ;D Being in the First Age changes nothing because, like I said times before, the roleplay would be freeform. It wouldn't HAVE to have powerful Maiar nor any of the rulers in canon. For example, (Since I have been proven wrong on my Mordor thing ) Morsereg in Angmar. Angmar disappeared from Middle-Earth a while before the War of the Ring. But we have Angmar now, don't we? And half of the rulers we see ruling realms are made up. Such is the case with the Grey Havens, Erebor, Rohan, Arnor, etc. But that is what makes it all fun! Again, it was just a suggestion...

Yeah, you are right about that Lancir.... Hmm EDIT: Oh, wait, it was mentioned by Gandalf- "The Witchking of Angmar." The Witchking was from Angmar until it vanished. He fled to Mordor and ruled Minas Morgul.

Angmar was defeated by the residents of Arnor (or, what was Arnor and at the time was divided into three seperate provinces) and the Witch King fled. It was abandoned, but nothing happened to the realm itself because the realm's fall did not happen within itself. The army of the Witch King was destroyed en route retreating from Arnor. They are mentioned twice, actually. Once the time you mentioned, and then in the Barrow-Downs, about the Men of Angmar. (Or...maybe that was one of the first drafts? (I have those books, you know, the "History of the Lord of the Rings" series with the first, second, third, and sometimes fourth drafts of chapters? That sniff, with the Nazgul looking for the Hobbits in the Shire, was originally Gandalf.)

I would play some-one like Maglor of Maedhros in the FA, not a Maia, I think the sons of Feanor are very interesting. All I'm saying is, not every-one would want to play Maia/Valar etc.
( Sorry, I am Raithen too, so that's why I'm saying it )
I try not to show Raithen using much power, as there is a lot on here, much better written than mine could be, so I'm trying for him to be more of a Warlord, than a Power.
But any-way, that was my little input.

Wow, I just examined the Maia spells thread, and right now we have about 9 Maia characters signed up. So, I guess you're right Orre, those that are Maia would be Maia again, leaving us with... 9 or so. Again, maybe I'm just worrying too much, but does this sound like too many to anyone else?
*Again voices his opinion that since Balrogs are banned, and Gandalf killed a Balrog, the Istari are therefore equal to or more powerful than a Balrog and should be banned as well (If A=B and B=C then A=C)*
*Nobody listens*
*Returns to everyday life*
[prophetic-ramblings] Mayhaps the folk of COG are a hardy folk, able to resist the power-race of which I spoke earlier. If that is the case, the RP will go well, and as I said, would probably be fun. On the other-hand, if these folk are weak-willed, they will be corrupted, and the RP will fall. Only time will tell. [/prophetic-ramblings]

I think it's understood on this board that being Maiar =/= instant win over someone who is not a Maiar. Personally, I like playing a regular guy myself.
