30,000
~ARMY~
- 10,000 Heavy infantry, wielding a pike as the primary, scimitars sheathed across the back as the secondary. They are heavily armored and carry a rectangular shield.
- 8,000 Heavy cavalry wielding lances to take out infantry, and scimitars. They have round shields.
- 6,000 Wain riders. They are like charioteers. There can be one, or two men to each one. They can wield a combination of spears, swords, javelins, and bows. There are blades attatched to the wheels to cut into any flesh that gets too close.
- 5,000 Chu ko nu (repeating crossbows). Their armor consists of an open faced helmet (for greater accuracy) and chain mail. The chu ko nu were used in medieval China, here is some of the history and explanation of them:
This weapon was extremely easy to manufacture and use, and could easily launch ten arrows in fifteen seconds. In comparison, a standard arbalest could barely shoot one in that time. The chu-ko-nu, however, had neither the power nor accuracy of a common crossbow due to operational reasons. This gave it a shorter range, which was compensated by using lightweight arrows instead of the heavy bolts of single-shot crossbows. Thus, the chu-ko-nu wasn't very useful against more heavily armored troops unless poison was smeared on arrows, in which case even a small wound could be fatal. Since a chu-ko-nu was shot from the hip, the accuracy was horrible but could be adjusted very swiftly since the next shot was only a second away.
The chu-ko-nu was operated by moving a lever forwards and backwards. In that movement, a bolt would be dropped in place, the string would be strung, then the bolt would be shot and another one would be ready to take its place.
~SPECIAL FORCES~
- 500 assassins. These elite men are mainly for small scale things. They are kind of like navy seals. They have no armor (so they could be more silent), they are all garbed in black and have a black turban and veil. Between them all they wield throwing knives, long knives, hooks, strangling nooses, blowguns with poisoned darts, grappling hooks (to scale walls), crossbows, bows, and short swords.
- 100 lesser dragons. They are small dragons that fly and breathe fire. Their scales are not nearly as hard as those as Smaug so they are vulnerable to arrows. Rhun was the brooding place of the greater dragons.
~SIEGE WEAPONS~
- 100 ballista, they are like giant crossbows that fire huge bolts.
- 100 onagers, catapults that fire multiple projectiles.
- 100 trebuchets, they are long range catapults that were shown in ROTK. Its what the Gondorians used to sling chunks of rock into the orcs.
- 100 fire siphons. These are basically short-range cannons that spew out fire that the Byzantines used these on their ships. I use them on land; they are mounted on wooden platforms with wheels.
