Saeren had sent a mental command to Maglor to join him, and was unrolling a map on the table, wighting it down. It showed, not, as was usual, the land-mass of Middle Earth, but the western coastline, from Umbar to Forochel, and the depth of the waters was marked and shown in varying shades of blue. How did any-one know the precise depth of the waters? The Elves of Cirdan, Telerin mariners, and also the Numenoreans, had charted such things. One could clearly see the sunken lands, of what had been Beleriand, going far out , hundreds of miles, before the drop-off of the shelf, plunging into the abyssal deeps. Certain higher points had survived the War of Wrath and the changing of the lands, becoming islands. His finger traced them Himling, which had been Maedhros fortress of Himring, the Ever-Cold, and west of that the much larger Tol Fuin, which had been Taur na Fuin, the Forest Under Nightshade, where his father had dwelled once in vampire shape. Some of the Echoriath mountains, whcih had encircled Gondolin, pierced the ocean as a half circle of rocky isles where seabirds now nested, south was Tol Morwen where the Stone of the Hapless, the grave of Morwen and Turin was sited, and the furthest west Tol Taras, where once had been Mount Taras near Turgons first dwelling at Nevrast before he vanished with his people into Gondolin.

Maglors face was still and set as he entered , and looked at Saeren. '' What do you wish? '' he asked, refusing to give Saeren any title, his eyes went over the map, dwelling on those land slost under the waves. Names he knew, names associated with valor, wth grief, with tragedy, so rarely with any joy.
