I agree about the Ghetto thing. I try to speak good English and refuse Netspeak { U, gr8, OMG, } though I use an occasional lol. Lol.

Eh, my mood varies. Usually I try to be correct in my English (as I love the subject and have a vocabulary the size of Greenland), but if I'm in a hurry, or want to be funny, or if the fit takes me, I'll use Netspeak.

Indeed. LOL Took me a while to figure out what you were meaning with it. And you infected me with it, so I started to do it myself.

Wait... there's a difference between hotlinking and directlinking?

At ImageShak you choose between hotlink (posting of a picture in its original size directly into the forum) and directlink (just posting the addy). So yes, I would say, if this terminology is not only used by ImageShak, there is a difference.

not technically. hotlinking (at least how I understand it) is when you're trying to source an image for a page, and instead of calling for an image from your own imgs folder, you use the actual URL of someone else's img...that make sense *scratches head* DAMMIT, WHY'D I WRITE THAT, I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TALKING TO YOU!!!

Well, first off, I'm sorry Jacky I'll talk to you now: Regular image linking is where you have your own image in a proper folder, so that the link looks like: That way you're not stealing someone else's bandwidth, or infringing on their monthly data transfer amount - you're using your own image. Incorrect image linking, or hotlinking, is where you source an image directly from someone else's domain, so that the link looks like this: When this is done, you're getting their server to send you the image, which takes up bandwidth from them. Each time somone loads your page, they call up that image, and their server sends it to you, which uses a little more toward them reaching their monthly transfer limit. That's not nice and is frowned upon, essentailly being bandwidth theft. Make more sense?

Yeah, I knewa ll that, thanks for taking the time to explain though. I'd just heard it called both and it seemed to be the same thing, so I needed to ask.
