Fox's mood changed for the better when they arrived into the shelter of Weathertop. He nodded a greeting to the guards as they let the pair enter, unguestioning. Fox held back a laugh and remarked to Ilus, "You have the right touch with gate guards.... one would almost think you had some military position...." Fox was now quite sure that 'Ilus' was more than a mere ranger, but saw no need to push the point. He made his way to a group of soldiers that had a nice fire going and he took off his damp cloak, hanging it near the fire to dry. Fox made conversation with the soldiers, leaving Ilus to work on securing them a pair of horses.

Doren smiled as Fox went to join the soldiers and walked towards a large stone staircase that went underground. Their he found torchlit stables and was greeted by the keeper of the steeds. "Good day, Lord Doren. I have prepared your steed as you requested. Afalas is ready whenever you may need him." Doren smiled and thanked the boy. He felt somewhat sorry that he did not know the boy's name but the boy knew his own. "What is your name, boy?" "My name is Alethed, My Lord." "Well Alethed prepare me another horse and I shall have a nice hot meal brought down to you, how does that sound?" "Of course! Thank you my lord!" Doren smiled and walked back up the steps joining the company seated by the fire and smiled at them. "Our steeds shall be ready soon, Fox, but for now we need to get a good night's sleep."

Fox turned when he heard Ilus and waved him over. "You should eat firs, these fellows have a boar roasting, quite good too." He finished chewing the bit he had been eating then remarked. "Good fortune on the horses. That will give haste to our journey indeed." When Fox had finished eating, he sat down on the dirt, just to the far rim of the fires ring of light. The off duty soldiers still sat about the fire, talking and joking while Fox could see all around others that stood diligently at watch. He pulled from his tunic a small flute and began playing an old melody, one written long ago celebrating the the defeat of Sauron by Elves and Men. Fox figured the tune may give cheer to the soldiers of this lonely outpost.

Doren leaned back against the logs that were set around the fire and smiled. The boar was indeed good and the warmth of the fire seemed to enrich it's flavour. He then looked to the soldiers who were now silent and humble. The reason for this was obvious when the sweet melody of a flute echoed through the air. He smiled as he listened to the ancient elven song and looked into the peaceful night sky happily.
"Mi naurath Orodruin Boe hedi i Vin. Han i vangad i moe ben bango. Sin eriol natha tûr în úgarnen Sin eriol um beleg úgannen Ú cilith 'war Ú men 'war Boe vin mebi Boe vin bango"
Once the song ended Doren smiled at Fox and realized that this instance reminded him much of their meeting in the Prancing Pony though this time their audience did not cheer but sat in awe at the specticle that they witnessed.

After playing the flute for a bit, Fox drifted to sleep - awakening a few hours later with dawn. All that was left of the fire was a pit of smoldering ashes with a little smoke rising from it. The outpost was bustling with men going about their business and Fox wandered around a moment before finding Ilus. He approached from behind and caught him just as he finished talking with a soldier. "'Morning. It looks as if we will have fair weather to start our trip."

Doren smiled and walked towards the gate with Fox looking towards the blue sky and the many soldiers bustling around Amon Sul. "The steeds are prepared and so if you wish it we may continue our journey."

Fox headed out the gate and mounted the horse provided to him. He gave the steed a gentle nudge with his heels and began the journey southward with Ilus.
